Let the Lord be glad in His works – Psalm 104:31b
The Lord feeds and clothes the earth and all His creatures. He works constantly in the lives of all mankind to save us from hell and bring us to maturity.
His earth and His people require a lot of maintenance and He wants our help. Christians are God’s hands on earth. He could manage everything by Himself with a handful of angels but instead He gives us the opportunity and privilege of working with Him side by side and therefore sharing in the successes and in His glory.
However, many of us in the body of Christ are still unsure of our position (righteous before God because of Christ Jesus, His Son and our Savior, in our hearts) and our duties, so we swirl hopelessly in an eddy of purposelessness while barely getting past Step 1.
Once our postition has been established – you got saved – the next phase of the Christian life is finding the project you are to do while you’re on the earth.
The work does not save you; it is your contribution to God’s project. There are many different tasks to be done and all are equally important.
Because man’s needs are great, God needs a big team with self-motivated members to work maturely and accomplish His goals. It’s not about us. It’s not about making money, which is just one of the tools that makes things happen. It’s not about having things. It’s about what God planned before the foundations of this world for all eternity and finding our place in it.
We are blessed to be invited to participate. Let us be diligent to please God by doing what is expected of us one day at a time, knowing that His obedient, faithful, loving children bring Him joy.
If your j.o.b. satisfies you and helps to further the kingdom of God on earth, that’s awesome. Do it. But if it doesn’t, don’t let it trap you into a routine of complacency and purposelessness. Do what you have to do to break free. It’s a marvelous thing to have control of your time, your money and your life.
